Company History

1914
Zachwieja Family Arrives in US
The Zachwieja Family arrived in the United States arriving at Ellis Island with only the clothes on their backs and enough money to enter the country. Walentin Zachwieja migrated to West Virginia and began his life as a coal miner in the days of the pick, shovel, and mule cart. His name can still be found on the Ellis Island Memorial Wall.

Ted T. Zachwieja
Ted T. Zachwieja the son of Walentin Zachwieja became the first Mechanical Engineer and college graduate. He would go on to work for various design companies while raising 4 children with his wife. He began sharing his experience with his son Ted A. Zachwieja II and his son's best friend Daniel Kim on the drafting tables in his garage and stoked the flame that would one day become ZDS.

Ted T. Zachwieja & Co. opened its doors from 1962 to 1982 by its founding members Ted T. Zachwieja and Sandy Zachwieja.

Ted (Todd) A. Zachwieja II would graduate college with a degree in Mechanical Engineering from WV Institute of Technology. Todd would also meet his wife and future business partner in college.

Lori Zachwieja & ZECO
Lori Zachwieja graduated from WV Institute of Technology with 3 bachelor degrees: Acccounting, Computer Management, and Business Administration. Ted Zachwieja II and Lori Zachwieja founded ZECO (Zachwieja Engineering Company).

Todd Zachwieja graduated Marshall University with a Masters in Engineering Management.

ZECO restructured to become ZAC LLC in 1993 by founding members Todd and Lori Zachwieja.

ZDS Design/Consulting Services is officially founded by Ted T. Zachwieja, Sandra Zachwieja, Todd Zachwieja, Lori Zachwieja, and Daniel Kim.

Ted Zachwieja III at the age of 16 joins ZDS making it a 3-generation firm.

Open Positions:

Mechanical Design Engineer – Responsible for
HVAC design, drawings, specifications, HVAC commissioning, codes and standards,
HVAC system failure investigation, energy optimization, submittal review,
Mechanical engineering principles application, strong background in HVAC and
Refrigeration, diagnostic testing experience, Fire-resistant rated
construction, cost analysis, research, Computer-Aided Design tools, team
coordination, psychrometrics, system loads, pump calculations, and technical
report writing. Must be willing to travel to client locations.  Reqs:
MS in Mechanical engineering with 1.5 years of exp. in the field. Must
have Engineer-Intern (E.I.) License. Location: ZDS Limited Liability Company Dba: ZDS
